Two focus houses for these three years will involve loved ones through home and family in the fourth house, and children, in the fifth house. If parents and children do not play a large part in the landscape of your life, then real estate, relocation and home renovations may consume your time and energy in the year in which you turn thirty nine.
Likewise, the year in which you turn forty is a fifth house year and this house is one concerned with creativity, social activities, and time spent in leisure and entertainment, so the year following your change of address may involve some lovely pursuits when you have the available cash and time to relax and spoil yourself. Alternatively, money is now tight and the consequences of investing in a new property in the previous year is now starting to dawn on you.
Forty one is not so pleasant as the year before with work commitments, long hours and much effort for little return beginning to encroach on your spare time with these themes being featured in a sixth house year. Exhaustion, illness and accidents through carelessness or lack of attention can also mar this year’s activities.

Profections: Moving Forward Through the Houses
39 years old : FOURTH HOUSE
The fourth house concerns the father, his relatives, and sometimes family in general. It is the home of your childhood, and it is the home you choose to build for yourself when you leave your childhood behind. The fourth house is directly in opposition to the tenth house, and often what happens in one, is reflected in the other.
Not only is this axis of fourth and tenth the parental axis, it is also the vertical line which marks the divide between private life and public life, and it describes the past (4th) as opposed to the future (10th). Sometimes a new opportunity in work or an advancement in our careers force us to leave home, relocate, or find new housemates, but the fourth house is much more than just bricks and mortar.
The house at the bottom of the chart represents our foundation, the rock upon which our lives are built and at the final year of our thirties we often wonder how to define the concept of ‘home’, especially when it comes to something intrinsic within ourselves that we can hold on to through the tough times, and from where we can borrow from the past, and move with confidence into the future.
40 years old : FIFTH HOUSE
Here’s the good news – turning forty is not as hard as it used to be!
In earlier times forty was considered to be the gateway to middle age, but this is no longer the case in a time of improved nutrition, accelerated fitness regimes, changing patterns in work, leisure hours, and the possibilities of relocation around the globe. At age forty the chart has profected to the fifth house and this year can feel a little lighter than the one that came before it. The fifth is the house of good fortune, of play and friends, creativity and leisure time, and depending on the planet which rules this year, forty can be way more fun than when you last visited this house at age twenty eight, especially given that you were in the grip of your Saturn Return.
Children are signified by the fifth house and this may be the year when you become a parent for the first time. You may have delayed having children until you built your career, stabilised your finances, or purchased your dream house but thoughts are returning this year to the decision over whether to become a parent in the next year or so. If you became a parent in your twenties or thirties, this year often brings children into sharp focus, particularly the eldest child in the family. They may be heading towards puberty and this time can be a reminder of your own painful progression from childhood to early adulthood.
One significant point is worthy of mention during a fifth house year. If last year was a big career move for you, then this year can leave you feeling a bit lost or at loose ends as to why you made a move in the first place. Feeling disorientated is common for fifth house years as there is little to connect the signs of the fifth to the tenth house. This feeling may not be so obvious if there is an aspect between the rulers of these two houses, but you may be resenting the fact that your spare time is being consumed by work commitments. Or that you are struggling to see enough of your children at this time in your life.
41 years old : SIXTH HOUSE
If you can identify with the frustrations of juggling a frenetic work schedule with the time to wind down, finding the space to enjoy something creative that you passionately love, or having the energy to concentrate on your children’s needs and demands, then this year is unlikely to ease the tension.
Sixth house years are often about drudgery. Your work ethic will be noticed by your management or supervisor at work, but you are going to wonder whether it is all worth the sacrifices you are making to maintain this pace.
This is a year when the body can get worn down through poor eating habits, stressful deadlines, insufficient sleep, and in general, stress related illnesses that talk about attacks on nervous systems and constant niggling health worries that don’t seem to go away.
Fractures in bones and general wear and tear are reminders that you are no longer quick to heal, or as fast on your feet as you used to be. A sixth house year can range from small irritations such as fatigue or a cold that won’t shift to more worrying concerns, and the relationship between the ruler of your first house (good health) and the ruler of your sixth house (the destruction of your good health) is a significant concern during this year.

Profections Summary for 39: 40: 41 years of age
Firdaria: Time Portions Belonging to the Planets
NEW LONG-TERM LORDS FOR BOTH DIURNAL AND NOCTURNAL BIRTHS
This is the third and last time in The Firdaria Diaries that BOTH diurnal and nocturnal births will experience a new long-term ruler during their three year time periods.
The previous time this occurred at the ages of 30, 31, and 32, where I mistakenly claimed that it was the first time in The Firdaria Diaries that this had happened. However, I forgot that when we began this journey at age 18 the two major Firdaria lords changed for both diurnal and nocturnal births. So to recap:
In the three years from 18 – 20 years of age.
Diurnal Births began a new major Firdaria period at 18 years of age with Mercury for 13 years. In the same period, Nocturnal Births began a new major Firdaria period at 20 years of age with Jupiter for 12 years. The three profected houses in focus were the seventh, eighth and ninth houses.
In the three years from 30 – 32 years of age.
Diurnal Births began a new major Firdaria period at 31 years of age with the Moon for the next 9 years. In the same period, Nocturnal Births began a new major period at 32 years of age with Mars becoming the long-term Firdaria lord for the next 7 years. By pure coincidence, the same three houses went into focus namely, the seventh, eighth and ninth houses.
In the three years from 39 – 41 years of age.
Diurnal Births will begin a new major Firdaria period at 40 years of age with Saturn becoming the designated planet for the next 11 years. In the same period, Nocturnal Births will begin a new major period at 39 years of age with the Sun becoming the long-term Firdaria lord for the next 10 years. This time the three profected houses will not be the seventh, eighth and ninth houses, but instead, will focus on the fourth, fifth and sixth houses.
Once more, it’s worth noting that if you’re partnered with a person of roughly the same age as yourself but from the opposite side of Firdaria, (ie. you were born during the day and they were born during the night, or vice versa), you will be entering a Saturn Firdaria at roughly the same time as they start a Sun Firdaria (or vice versa).
This is not always a good combination for peace and tranquillity and any weaknesses in the relationship are likely to become open warfare as the conflicting Firdarias come into effect. Saturn (diurnal Firdaria) may be withdrawing or becoming increasingly critical of any weaknesses in the relationship at the same time as the Sun (nocturnal Firdaria) is turning its attention towards the individual’s needs rather than the concerns of the other partner, and between the two Firdaria lords, the need for independence or personal expression may temporarily drive a wedge between two otherwise contented partners in a relationship. The need for patience and understanding is strong during these three years if the relationship is to survive the changes in these Firdaria lords.
Diurnal people are just completing a Moon period of nine years at the same time as Nocturnals have been going through a seven year Mars period so there has been a great deal of inner searching leading up to this current three year period. It’s not unusual to find bruised egos and weary souls that need special care at this time especially when forty is just around the corner and there is the knowledge that your youth is behind you now. The added focus on home and family vs career, and the demands of growing children also add wear and tear to any relationship, no matter how strong its foundation.
After the age of forty there are only two more planets for each of the major Firdarias. Daytime births will change at 51 years when Jupiter takes over for twelve years and then later at 63 years when Mars becomes the last planet to take charge in the Diurnal Firdaria. Night-time births will change at 49 years when Venus rules for eight years followed by Mercury at age 57 who will hold court for the next thirteen years. Both Firdaria pause their journey at 70 years of age when the Nodes become prominent and then this predictive system will recommence at age 75.

Daytime Births 39 – 41 years of age
DAYTIME BIRTH – Age at Birthday : 39 years
Major Long-term Lord: MOON (Years)
Minor Short-term Lord: MERCURY (Months)
The final year of the thirties is also the final year of the Moon’s Firdaria for those born during the daytime hours. Mercury has one last chance to vocalize the things the Moon wants to address during this year. Serious discussions on happiness, contentment, love and family ties are a large part of the Moon getting ready to hand over to Saturn when you turn forty.
Don’t stop communicating your emotional needs during this year and be honest about what you truly want. Be prepared to ask for change, commitment, support, acceptance and most of all, love, love, love. If things don’t improve now, Saturn will cut and sever its ties over the next few years when its Firdaria comes into effect.
Family concerns, real estate, renovations, upgrading or moving to a new location for job opportunities are all unsettling experiences for any individual, let alone one who is just about to meet Saturn as their new Firdaria lord.

DAYTIME BIRTH – Age at Birthday: 40 years
Major Lord: Years
SATURN for 11 years – Start of New Long-term Period
The year in which you turn forty is the year when you will meet Saturn for the first time as the major Firdaria lord for the next eleven years. Up until now Saturn has been the secondary short-term ruler, always under the supervision of one of the other planets. Previously Saturn has been directed by the wishes and obligations of the Sun (age 5.7), Venus (age 13.4), Mercury (age 21.7), and the Moon (age 32.3). Now, Saturn gets to direct the other planets and change is definitely in the air.
One of the biggest advantages for day-timers is the age factor. They are adults when Saturn’s eleven year reign begins and having the knowledge and experience of earlier Saturn periods should make this time one to be celebrated as a decade that they can take control of our lives and build on past achievements as well as being honest about their failures and short-comings.
For night-timers Saturn began at age nine and lasted until 20 years of age and for them the Saturn experience was channelled through being controlled rather than being in control. Elders, parents, teachers, authoritarians and law providers taught them lessons about control so that when they meet Saturn again as a short-term ruler in longer Firdaria years, they are reminded once more about the nature of their control figures, and whether that control was taught by wisdom and compassion, or negatively with fear and restriction as the theme.
Minor Lord: Months
SATURN – Start of New Short-term Period of 18 months
A double dose of Saturn in a fifth house profected year can mean a number of things. If you have a strong urge for the focus at this time in your life to be on quality down-time when you don’t want to be thinking of your future or a promotion in career, then Saturn is not an ideal planet to relax and enjoy leisure time.
It’s more likely to emphasise the fact that you are so time poor you cannot let go of work commitments or find time to socialize and nurture the creative side of your soul. Saturn carries with it an in-built guilt button and every time you slacken off Saturn is inclined to make you feel like the laziest person on Earth.
So if there is leisure time, Saturn says it must be productive, it must be useful, and you must try to rise to the top and keep improving until no-one (including yourself) can criticise you for wasting your time and effort on your fifth house endeavours. This is exhausting and often takes all the pleasure from the experience you are trying desperately to enjoy.
The other possibility for fifth house involves children and Saturn may be delivering lessons on how you are going about enforcing rules and boundaries on the children who are now moving towards independence or puberty. It may be that the child you produced at your Saturn Return (at 27, 28 or 29 years of age) is now having their own Saturn opposition at age 14, 15 or 16 years of age and this is bound to create plenty of opportunities for you to flex Saturn’s muscles and for them to challenge your restrictions.

DAYTIME BIRTH – Age at Birthday: 41 years
Long-term Lord: SATURN
Short-term Lord: SATURN
A sixth house year can be very wearing on your spirit and your physical strength especially if you are trying to fit way too much into your daily life. Saturn’s Firdaria adds extra strain for the sixth house as day-timers strive to meet unreasonable deadlines and look to impress, or at least draw the attention of those in control of your job security, or any influence over advancements in your career.
Those individuals who are born during the daylight hours sometimes set unrealistic goals for themselves as they are inclined to emulate the principles of the Sun – to shine, to gain credibility, to achieve greatness, and to rise above others in order to feel accomplished or successful.
At the age of forty one, day-timers may be wondering why their dreams and aspirations have vanished into thin air, and why they feel mildly (or greatly) dissatisfied with their lives at the change from Moon’s Firdaria to Saturn’s eleven years. Astrologically it’s no coincidence that turning the time clock to 40 requires some readjustment and poses some serious Saturn questions for those born during the day.
Questions such as:
Where am I going in life? Is this where I expected to be at 40? If not, why not? And where have I gone wrong?
You may have done many things ‘right’ but Saturn is not the planet to clap you on the back and congratulate you for all the wise decisions you have made so far in your life. Rather, Saturn uses the ‘glass half empty’ philosophy to examine what you don’t have, and to decide what the cost will be if you really want these things, or whether life is pretty okay without them.
At the very least, Saturn will shake you up in order to force some honesty from you. If you’re fooling others, Saturn will reveal your mistakes and can bring humiliation and disgrace during its decade-long reign. If you’re fooling yourself, Saturn will strip you of any false illusions and hopefully, set you on the way to learning what your authentic self really is.
Saturn’s eleven years involve ‘resetting’ life so that you can move forward with the correct intent, whatever that may be. If you have taken shortcuts in your earlier years, if you have been dishonest or unethical, immoral in your business or private dealings, Saturn will out you, so this sixth house year is a good one to start looking intently at your life while you’re still hidden in the shadows of the chart.
Chances are you will meet Saturn’s harsh light in the next year when your chart profects to the seventh house of friends, allies, enemies and competitors. If you don’t look now and start making changes, then soon there will be plenty of people more than willing to set you right about where you’ve gone wrong.
Saturn is a planet which signifies the physical realm. For this reason, it often shows restrictions or weaknesses in our bodies: mystery illnesses, skin conditions, breathing difficulties, tooth decay, and skeletal stress points such as ankles, knees, back and neck injuries. Really, anywhere in our bodies that we carry extra burdens – physical, emotional or metaphysical – and this sixth house year can be one where we focus on complaints or pain that amplify Saturn’s inflexibilities. Treatment is going to be a lot more complicated than a short course of medication as Saturn is symptomatic of areas in our lives where we feel stifled, frustrated, restricted, or just plain unhappy.

Short-term Lord Changes from SATURN to JUPITER
Long-term Lord: SATURN
NEW Short-term Lord: JUPITER
Just over halfway through the year Saturn steps down as the short-term ruler and Jupiter takes over for the next 18 months. If there has been friction in the sixth house, either frustration with your balance in work to leisure ratio, or tension with a fellow workmate, or a health concern, then hopefully Jupiter has more grace, wisdom and tact in resolving some of the issues bothering you at this time.
Jupiter is still hampered a little under Saturn’s rule, however, it can also bring success through hard work and it may be that in the latter part of this sixth house year, someone is watching your hard work and is willing to reward you for your endeavours. If health concerns are on your mind, Jupiter signifies a specialist or health expert of some kind so I suggest you keep looking for the answers to your poor health woes. How effective they will be is determined by the ruler of your sixth house, but keep an open mind to the advice they give as it may help you in the long run.
Finances can sometimes improve under Jupiter so if Saturn has worn out your resources in the past eighteen months, you may be able to recoup some losses. You will still need to save though, as Saturn is the major lord and it is known to be unforgiving if you are letting Jupiter over-spend or gamble with your money during its shorter term.

Night Births 39 – 41 years of age
NIGHT BIRTH – Age at Birthday : 39 years
Major Lord: Years
SUN for 10 years – Start of New Long-term Period
In the last year of your thirties you say goodbye to your Mars Firdaria and get ready to meet the Sun as the next long-term Firdaria lord. One full decade is the length of the Sun’s Firdaria, and as a night-time birth, the Sun’s glare is bound to make you feel uncomfortable during its ten year term.
Keep in mind that everything we know about the Sun through astronomy becomes symbolic in astrology. The sun is the centre of our universe and as such it is our sole source of light, life and energy. This fact gets reflected back to us as our self-identification, our striving to achieve and excel, and our desire to be the centre of everyone else’s universe. In astrology the Sun is not great at sharing its glories, or hiding its light under a bushel. This is not a comfortable feeling for night-timers and it takes some getting used to when you meet the opposite luminary for the first time as a major Firdaria lord.
If you were born between the hours of 6 pm to 6 am (depending on the season at birth) you will have a nocturnal chart. This means that your Sun is below the horizon and you are less likely to display the qualities of your Sun sign.
Modern astrology leans heavily on the characteristics of the Sun and many descriptions of your personality will be hard to comprehend if you are born during the night-time hours. For you, the Moon will more likely describe your reactions to the world. The sign of the Moon at the time of your birth will describe your behaviour and your responses when you are balanced between feeling appreciated or ignored, secure or threatened, loved or rejected in love.
Minor Lord: Months
SUN – Start of New Short-term Period of 17 months
The house at the bottom of the chart is one which is dedicated to giving you a solid base or foundation in life. For this reason, the fourth house signifies the father, the father’s family, the mother’s partners, the clan you belong to, and the sense of home – both in physical and spiritual terms – and depending on its ruler, the private life you choose to build for yourself as an adult.
With the start of a Sun Firdaria, home and father become incredibly important as they are both part of the puzzle that forms the You from which you are made. The similarities or dissimilarities between yourself and your father (or your clan) can be unsettling as their successes and failures may be reminding you of your own highs and lows in life. If father is a beloved figure then a sense of self-pride is in order and if you have managed to reach beyond his own expectations in life, then this can be a contented and happy period for you as you congratulate yourself on your good fortune.
However, if the opposite is true and father has been missing in your life or has hurt or disappointed you in some way, then looking at your own patterns and attitudes might remind you too much of his influence over you. Especially if it has been unconscious up until this moment and previously you haven’t compared his shortcomings with your own. You have plenty of time in the future to change your patterns, but it must start now, when the Sun comes into focus, if you really want to be a better person, or parent, or partner, than your own father has been during his (and your) life.

NIGHT BIRTH – Age at Birthday: 40 years
Long-term Lord: SUN
Short-term Lord: SUN
Forty is the perfect time to start making amends for father’s failings, especially as it is a year which is concentrated on your relationships with your children.
The Sun is till the primary and secondary lord of the Firdaria, so changes can be made if you feel improvement in your behaviour will improve your relationship with one, or all, of your children. You have this wonderful opportunity to spend time with the ones you love so it would be a pity to let your ego, your pride, or your ambitions get in the way of building a better relationship at this time.
If children are not a part of your lifestyle then fifth house will likely represent your creative nature or the passion which consumes your spare time. The Sun is happy to spend time, money and effort on becoming more skilled or better represented through your unique talents and even if they do not advance you to a higher professional or financial level, the self satisfaction you achieve will more than balance out your various expenditures.

Short-term Lord Changes from SUN to VENUS
Long-term Lord: SUN
NEW Short-term Lord: VENUS
Almost halfway into this year the Sun will hand over to Venus and this creates a buzz of good feelings if both of these planets are well situated in the chart. Fifth house is still in focus so spending time with loved ones, especially children, is something that you will be drawn towards in this seven month period until the arrival of the next birthday.
If creativity, leisure, new lovers, or entertainment are on your mind then this time should be fulfilling and productive in any or all of these areas.
Women are represented by Venus so whether you are male or female there are plenty of friendships and good times to be enjoyed during the combination time of a Venus Firdaria and a fifth house profection.
Venus is the most comfortable in a night-time chart so if the past seventeen months has been difficult Venus should be able to smooth rough waters and bring matters to a positive conclusion. This is not the time to prove you were ‘right’, it’s the time to be gracious and to allow the other party (and this may be a teenager or a friend) to remember why they want you back in their lives.
***
NIGHT BIRTH – Age at Birthday: 41 years
Long-term Lord: SUN
Short-term Lord: VENUS
The change from fifth house, known as ‘the house of good fortune’ to the sixth house, known as ‘the house of bad fortune’ can be a bumpy one even when Venus is supposed to be the planet overseeing these changes.
Sixth house often accentuates any weaknesses or flaws in our bodies and the planet which rules this house in your chart is the one that needs to be watched closely over this coming year. As Venus rules all things female, if you are a woman you may find that issues with your breasts or your reproductive system are highlighted during this year.
Venus is also the planet that signifies the things we love to love so dietary concerns over substances that give us highs (and this includes sugar) is worth looking at during this year.
Venus may also bring a change in workplace as the sixth house covers this area and a female or friend might help you to relocate your place of employment. If Venus is in poor condition in your chart then a female co-worker could be a problem for you.
41 years and 10 months
Short-term Lord Changes from VENUS to MERCURY
Long-term Lord: SUN
NEW Short-term Lord: MERCURY
Venus hands over to Mercury as the next short-term ruler just two months before turning forty two. The change in planets may be significant especially if you have been trying to solve a particular problem and you have come up short until now.
Mercury is the planet of thought, memory and communication so if you are willing to take a long hard look at some of your more self-destructive habits, or if you have been wilfully ignoring a situation because it’s too uncomfortable to move on, then Mercury is likely to jolt you out of your complacency.
The female who has been making your life unbearable is probably going to get a blast from you, the niggling health worry that you have ignored so far needs immediate attention, and the food, alcohol or substance intake needs to be redirected into healthier and happier options.
Mercury is waiting in the wings to be useful, but you have to make the choices to change before it will spring into action with ideas, plans and advice from those who are willing to help you come out from under your self-imposed cloud of doubt or negativity.
